The children and I took off for one last hurrah before school to Seabrook Island this past week. We were joined by our niece/cousin, Emma, who took it all in. Ryan stayed behind to work, sigh, and bask in some home improvements. My parting words to him went something like this, "I will be fine with four so long as no one gets sick." Hmmmm. One hour and thirty minutes into our trip, MK begins with, "Ow, my eye hurts" and continued with, "Ow, my tummy hurts." Fever came. One child of mine treated MK as if she had the plague for fear that he too would get sick. One child diligently wiped off every toy that MK touched and then proceeded to say, "Aw, Mason-Kate, don't play with that one, I just wiped it off!" And one child simply came to me every time MK made so much as a whimper for fear she was not going to make it. You see, we are not used to MK being sick. And the girl was SICK. She has had pneumonia, she did end up in the hospital for that one, and she has had one other ear infection and of course the simple little cold/cough gunk, but this is the very first time in all of our two and a half years with her that she has consistently fun a fever over 100 for more than a day - and she is doing this illness good, holding steady with a fever no less than 103 for five days straight now and counting. Ear infection. Eye infection, pink eye - not sure. Not really into eating though she does request food to hold onto during meals. Now to say all of this, she has been quite the cuddler, quite the mommy's girl and quite the survivor. Though she was not 100%, she hung in there with the healthy three....she played ball on the beach, she played "sea animals" in the pool, she dug holes, built sand castles, played tag, she did it all and even if she wasn't participating, she patiently watched as the other three went about their beach activities.

"I not feeling good." This was said by MK quite a few times over the past week. Poor sweet girl.
I went in to find the children all sitting together around and on one chair....nevermind the fact that there are two large sofas and one loveseat all in the same room with this particular chair. So cute that they all wanted to be together.
Gran and Pop joined us mid-week and we all took in North Beach.

The beach would not be the beach for Pryce without catching minnows. This is his favorite pasttime while visiting the beach.

I love this pic of Emma. She just loved hanging out in the water.

All three decided to take a turn at boogie boarding.

And the trip would not have been a trip without many stops by the Lollipop Shop!
One day on the beach, a family with a boy and a girl, both adopted from China, set up camp not too far from our beach towel clad abode. The big kids were off catching minnows and other sea urchins while MK and I made drip castles together by the shore. I noticed the family as they walked onto the beach but did not point them out to MK. Backing up a bit, all week MK had been stating to me that her hair was getting blond like mine. So we are sitting on the beach, MK looks up, notices the little girl (age 7) and exclaims, "Mommy! Mommy! Hey, she got the black hair like I do!" We talked with the family for a bit, they adopted both children at different times from the same orphanage. The two were cribmates and both were waiting children. So good to hear their story and see the beautiful faces of these two children.
On an adoption note....our missing documents finally appeared and were safely delivered to our home, all of them, safely in our hands!!! AND, we got our fingerprinting appointments scheduled for this coming Thursday! Moving right along....:)

Friday night the boys took up a few seats at the local baseball stadium in the HEAT. While they inhaled burgers and Dippin Dots, we girls took in another scene. It was an evening filled with fun, food, nails being polished and topped off with an ice cream cone! Just the girls. Two blond mothers and two bright, brown eyed little Asian girls.
Jaida and MK on their special night!
MK taking it all in!
Mason-Kate loves Jaida. Our boys love Jaida's older siblings. We love that our families have grown together through adoption. Thanks Hatcher family for being such great friends!
